ive read through the post and cant find my answer unless im missing it so i was wandering if any of you fellow swirlers that have come up with the perfect finish combination could tell me what grit of sand paper you are you using after you have put the first couple of coats of clear down. are you using it dry or wet. im using the 2k clear wich is very pricey so i dont really want to waste it not doing it the correct way. i spray a couple of light tack coats to seal the paint then a couple of wet coats then i want to sand but not sure on the correct grit or to use dry or wet. thanks in advance to anyone that can help. ive cleared a couple of guitars with the enamel paint but none with the magic marble so i could use some tips, thanks.

When I have cleared guitars I will dust a few coats on, saw about 8 coats, allowing a couple of mins inbetween to dry. Then I leave it a couple of hours and go back and spray about 2-3 wet coats and let it dry for a couple of weeks. Then I get to it with sand paper, wet, starting at about 600 and going up to 1200. Once done I apply 2-3 more wet coats and allow to dry for at least 2 weeks. Then I get at it with wet sandpaper from about 800 all the way through to about 2000, then I get polish on it and its done.

Obviously your waiting times will be drastically reduced if not removed all together as your using 2k.

thanks t-bone that helps, like i said the 2k ive been able to find at about 23 bucks a can so i dont want to make to many mistakes at that price. i have used the rustoleum 2x clear on my enamel projects and it works really well and polishes up like glass but like you said it takes forever to cure so you can work on it. i havent tried the rustoleum on the magic marble yet but id like to. it would save me some money as i only use spray cans. some of the post ive seen from scooter and some others seem to have bad luck with the standard clear from the cans so im not sure if i want to chance it. all the changes to the site look great. nice job. thamks again you are the swirl master.

About Me

My name is Tony and I am a Web Developer by trade, I created this site after I recieved huge numbers of emails about my GMC swirl YouTube video on how to swirl a guitar to look like a Steve Vai Ibanez Jem.

I have been a fan of swirled guitars since seeing the first GMC in the Ibanez brochure, unfortunatly I could never afford one so went about figuring out how it was done. When I started swirling I was living in Guernsey and I bought a mahogany Jem body which is the one in the first GMC video.
