Can some one tell me how they applied the undercoat example on the swirled black and green guitar with green primer? Did you use a brush to apply or foam brush or paint brush. I bought 1 quart kilz regular oil based primer and sealer and had it tinted a light green then I am going to swirl the guitar in. I tried a test to spray the kilz however it spits and according to msds sheet do not thin. How has anyone on here applied theirs?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Lonnie

It was just a matt green spray paint that I had lying around. Nothing special about it. :)

hi there T-Bone.. a quick question, pls..

was your primer paint water based, acrylic, or does it work with any spray can?

and 2.

does it matter IF you have:

1. your primer - from a spray can - water, oil,
2 you swirl - let's say humbrol

3. with borax ? or without borax? ;o)

after you let it dry:

what kind of varnish / finish it is recommended:
a. acrylic
b. polyurethane ? my necks are clear coats blowed with polyurethane clear coat and it look cool ..

just hoping that the clear coats will not mess with the swirls....

Thanks for your support guys. you rock.. ;o)

About Me

My name is Tony and I am a Web Developer by trade, I created this site after I recieved huge numbers of emails about my GMC swirl YouTube video on how to swirl a guitar to look like a Steve Vai Ibanez Jem.

I have been a fan of swirled guitars since seeing the first GMC in the Ibanez brochure, unfortunatly I could never afford one so went about figuring out how it was done. When I started swirling I was living in Guernsey and I bought a mahogany Jem body which is the one in the first GMC video.
