Hi all.
First off I gotta say thanks to you guys who are doing this and posting the vids on the tube, that's where I first spotted it and decided I MUST do it.
I've been lurking for a week or so and thought it was time I registered and said hi.
I'm not swirling guitars like the majority of people, there's no way I am stripping my dean down and swirling it, but I am swirling my drum kit.
I have a Roland TD-11K electronic drumkit, but I am in the process of cutting down, swirling and converting acoustic drums to electric as the edrum pads are pretty small.
So far I have a 16" floor tom cut in half to use as kick drums and they have been swirled black and red.
I have a couple more toms ready to be cut prepped and swirled.
They came out average, but good enough for kick drums that are hidden away down the bottom of the kit.
Biggest problem here is availability of paint to use. As much as I would love to get some magic marble, I can't find a way to get it....YET!!! Even Humbrol is impossible to find unless I order online and I am impatient

I ended up going with scooterswirls WhiteKnight spraycan method as I can get those easily enough, however I ended up using no borax, and straight from the tap not heated water.
It seemed to work ok the first time, however I used too much black and it was a bit gluggy in places, which I am going to attempt to resolve by smashing a heap of clear on it and blocking the hell out of it.
I am a marine spraypainter and can access very high gloss and very hard clearcoats. If it doesn't work out I can always sand them back and re-dip...maybe by that time I will have found some magic marble
I did it over a black base as I am going for a washed out red look, a kind of bloody swirl I guess, and a darker not as vibrant red would suit that more.
Even when not happy with one it takes me roughly 10 minutes to sand back a shell and re-base ready for a scuff when dried and another attempt. 1 coat of gloss black as a base and the scotchbrited for adhesion.
I redid one already, and still not entirely happy with it, I may redo it, or I might clear it on the weekend when I paint my next boat and see how it turns out after a good blocking.
I have tried with borax and heated water as well and that didn't turn out very well at all so was mowed back and redone to what it is now. This is the one I may redo. It is the one without the hoop or lugs on it.
I also tried a marbling kit from an art shop as it was the closest I could get to marbling paint, but it was worthless.
