Hi guys, this is my first swirl so i'd really like you to give me any kind of tips...
Let's begin:
I bought a strat kit straight from Thomann.de, i'm going to scallop the neck (anyone scallop-addicted here?) and swirl the body.
I've bought some Marabu easy marble colours, just to let you kjnow the brand.
The first idea was to swirl a straight black and white body (as i've seen on youtube), but then i changed a bit idea.. so i bought black, white, amethyst purple and ultramarine blue.
So... at the moment i'm working with the neck, i've just finished the headstock shape and i think i'll begin scalloping soon (again, if there's any tips PLEASE write!!!), but i think i'll go and swirl the body quite soon.
I've read about the "orange peel problem" of marabu colours, is that a big problem?
I've got more questions but it is ok for now, thank you!

Not sure about the orange peel but from experience the Marabu ones don't work very well, I found the paint could be rubbed off easily after swirling. Let us know how you get on with them.

I like scalloped necks as well. Are you going the whole hog malmstein style or just the top 5?

hi Frank. the best advice I can give you ,as it's well said in this site is to be patient and practice alot before you swirl your guitar. I use the magic marble colours and seem to work fine for me . Would be a good idea to try them too if you can and see what works best for you.

I've also scalloped my neck all the way. There are many vids on YOUTUBE that could be helpful to you. I'd strongly suggest you play different scalloped necks to decide what depth you like most. For example, I prefer a slightly scalloped neck, not as deep as the Malmsteen necks.

In fact I've completely changed my JS 1000 guitar. Swirled, scalloped, thinned out the body and neck, changed the headstock shape, Gotoh locking trem etc. Right now, I'm doing the final polyurethane coating, then buff to shine and ready to play. I'll upload many pics of BEFORE & AFTER.

All I can say is that its worth it!!!!!

So ,if you need any help with scalloping your neck or anything else, feel free to ask.:-)

About Me

My name is Tony and I am a Web Developer by trade, I created this site after I recieved huge numbers of emails about my GMC swirl YouTube video on how to swirl a guitar to look like a Steve Vai Ibanez Jem.

I have been a fan of swirled guitars since seeing the first GMC in the Ibanez brochure, unfortunatly I could never afford one so went about figuring out how it was done. When I started swirling I was living in Guernsey and I bought a mahogany Jem body which is the one in the first GMC video.
